Meadowlark Energy has an immediate opening for a Building Analyst to perform residential energy audits, estimate, propose and close work with our customers and provide ongoing client management for the resulting retrofit jobs. This role is a blend of building performance analysis and in-home selling.

The ideal candidate will have relevant skills and experiences in several if not all facets of the job scope, be able to pick up any missing skills, especially energy auditing and building performance knowledge, and will play a key role in contributing to the culture of an exciting growth opportunity.

Role
- Develop mastery of key issues in residential building science
- Provide industry leading building performance consulting for projects following the BPI standard
- Deliver accurate, complete and competitive scope of work recommendations and estimate for each project. An ability to recognize opportunities for retrofit sales is a key role.
- Learn and use consultative selling methods (Sandler Sales Techniques, e.g.) with customers to close sales and provide a low-pressure sales environment that empowers customers
- Play a key role in developing new auditors and building the overall Meadowlark team
- Maintain accurate records for all customer interactions in company database
- Oversee both small and large retrofit projects to ensure excellent customer service
- Responsible for attending networking activities and generating leads

Qualifications
- Good people skills – good communication skills
- Ability to multi task
- Ability to learn and work with software for energy modeling
- Good teamwork ability
- Physical – ability to work in tight spaces
- Ability to learn the fundamentals of building science
- Some experience with construction project management
- Construction Sales experience
- Experience and familiarity with the building trades

Base salary according to skills and experience.

Location: Wyandotte, Michigan

Provide energy advice and coordination services for customers through residential and small commercial energy audits. Identify opportunities regarding energy efficiency through improved efficiency, conservation, building shell improvement, HVAC changes and/or upgrades, efficient electric water heating and behavioral changes.

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Travel to pre-scheduled appointments to conduct on-site walkthrough energy audits to 1,500 residential and 500 small commercial buildings
  • Provide detailed audit reports for each customer at the conclusion of each audit
  • Promote the energy efficiency program to customers and trade allies
  • Work with building owners and property managers to provide energy efficiency advice and assistance in participating in energy efficiency programs
  • Identify and provide documentation of on-site opportunities for energy efficiency and provide follow-up as required to the customers
  • Discuss technical elements of energy consuming equipment —i.e. lighting, HVAC, hot water systems, building & pipe insulation and air sealing
  • Enter data into spreadsheets and databases to determine energy savings and to manage current projects Provide a professional appearance appropriate for a representative of the Franklin Energy team
  • Be able to work in a team atmosphere, and willing to collaborate on continuous improvement of operations year after year
  • Installation of energy efficient equipment and products including aerators, showerheads, and compact fluorescent lights as required

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required or equivalent experience
  • BPI or RESNET certification strongly desired
  • Energy Efficiency experience is a plus
  • Technical school degree combined with demonstrated experience in the electric utility field will be considered when deciding on this position.
  • 1-2 years experience required in the electric or natural gas utility industry, facilities management, HVAC design or sales, commercial and industrial lighting, or conservation and energy management
  • Previous customer service experience required
  • Must be self-motivated, organized and have an ability to prioritize workload
  • Must be flexible to handle a wide work variety and work at a fast pace

This position may be part- of full-time depending on applicant’s skill sets. The applicant will perform field work and assist in the coordination of programs that improve energy efficiency in residential, commercial and municipal sectors.
We are looking for someone with very strong interpersonal skills and ability to educate persons of all demographics as to the benefits of energy efficiency, sustainability and related community development strategies. Applicant will also be organized, self-motivated, able to work well with a diverse team and meet goals and deadlines. Applicant can also expect to be trained in energy audits and related skills as part of this position..

Work will primarily be in Greater Lansing and Grand Rapids areas, as well as southern tier of the state.

Travel with a personal vehicle is required. In addition to the above qualities, applicant should possess:

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree and several years of relevant experience in energy and/or environmental education, community organizing, with a strong understanding of energy efficiency, building science and green community development.

• Certifications in energy-related professions, such as HERS/RESNET, LEED, BPI or equivalents are a plus.
